One of the highlights of the Gold Coast Show is the Woodchop Competition, a traditional favourite that runs over the three days. Woodchopping is also one of Australia’s oldest sports.

It originated from the Nation’s pioneering days when cutting and felling trees for building materials and to clear agricultural land was part of everyday life.
Pioneer axemen as they were known worked in gangs and during picnic days would compete against each other in friendly rivalry.

Axemen and women competing at our Gold Coast Show travel from all over Queensland to vie for honours in categories such as tree felling, standing block, and cross cut saw events.

Often there are also demonstrations and novelty events using modern chainsaws and pitting ladies against gents to add to the fun of the competition.
